Privacy Policy
How RESP Guru collects, uses, and protects your personal information — in line with Canada’s privacy law.
Who we are
RESP Guru (“we,” “us,” “our”) is operated by Harpreet Singh, based in Ontario, Canada. This website (respguru.com) provides general education about Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs) and government education-savings grants, and a way to contact us.
We are committed to protecting your personal information and handling it in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), applicable Ontario privacy law, and Quebec’s Law 25, because some of our content is written for families in Quebec. We follow these laws; we do not claim any privacy certification or seal.
What personal information we collect
Information you give us directly. When you use our contact form or email us, we collect the information you provide — your first name, last name, email address, subject, and message. Your message is emailed to hello@respguru.com and is also saved in this website’s own database by our form plugin (SureForms), so we can find it again. You may also choose to share other details (for example, about your child’s education-savings goals); please share only what is necessary.
Information collected automatically. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 collects standard technical and usage information — such as your approximate location, your browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site that referred you — through cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies and analytics, below). If you decline, or if you make no choice at all, Google Analytics does not load and none of this is collected.
Information we do not collect here. This website does not collect payment or banking details, and does not ask for your Social Insurance Number or your child’s personal information. Our savings estimator runs entirely in your browser — the figures you enter are not transmitted to us or stored.
Why we collect it, and your consent
We use your personal information to:
- respond to your enquiry and provide the information or consultation you request;
- follow up with you about RESP options and, where appropriate, education-savings products or services;
- operate, secure, and improve the website; and
- meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
By submitting the contact form or emailing us, you consent to us contacting you about your enquiry. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see Your choices and rights). We collect, use, and disclose personal information only for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us run the site and our business — our website host (Hostinger), our contact-form plugin (SureForms), which saves your message in this website’s own database, and Google LLC, which provides Google Analytics 4 once you have accepted analytics cookies. Our consent tool (Complianz) records your cookie choice inside your own browser and does not send it anywhere. These providers handle information on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
- Others where required or permitted by law — for example, to comply with a legal obligation or to protect our rights.
Some of these providers may store or process data outside Canada (including in the United States). Where that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions. We take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected.
Cookies and analytics
We use only a small number of cookies. Here is the whole list, in plain English:
- Essential cookies — set by our caching system (LiteSpeed Cache) so pages load quickly, and by our consent tool (Complianz) to remember the cookie choice you made. These are always on, because the site cannot work properly without them.
- Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics 4, and only after you choose Accept. They tell us which pages people read and how visitors reach the site. This data is kept for 14 months and then deleted, and Google’s advertising features and advertising signals are switched off, so it is not used to target ads at you.
You can change your cookie choice at any time using the button below, or clear cookies through your browser settings. Turning off essential cookies in your browser may stop parts of the site working.
How long we keep your information
We keep contact-form submissions and correspondence only as long as needed to respond to you and for our legitimate business and regulatory record-keeping purposes, after which we securely delete or de-identify them. If you become a client, records related to that relationship are retained as required by applicable insurance and financial-services regulations.
How we protect your information
We use reasonable physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information appropriately.
Your choices and rights
Under PIPEDA and Quebec’s Law 25, you have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete the personal information we hold about you, where we are not required by law or regulation to keep it;
- withdraw your consent to further contact or marketing at any time (subject to legal and contractual limits); and
- ask questions or make a complaint about how we handle your information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the timeframe required by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
A note about advice
The content on this website is general information only and is not financial, investment, insurance, or tax advice. Personalized recommendations are provided only through a direct advisory relationship, where additional information will be collected and handled under the applicable regulatory requirements and disclosures.
